Part 2 of 3: Exterminate Carpenter Ants
1. Be careful when facing Carpenter Ants. There is a warning that says:
Do not handle or wood ant ant nest directly. Carpenter Ants are not too
aggressive and usually will not bite humans. However, when angry or feel
threatened, wood ants can and will cause painful bites. Known wood ants squirt
formic acid which can cause bite wounds and exacerbate the pain. Although not a
big problem if the Carpenter Ants bite, you can prevent it by avoiding touching
ants or ant nest unless absolutely necessary, in which case you must use the
long sleeves and gloves.
2. Find the ant colony. The first step to eradicate wood ant
colony is to find it. To determine the location of the colony, look for ants,
small holes and piles fras in locations that are discussed in Part One. Give
special attention to areas that appear to have damp wood. You can also test the
attack on wood near the surface of the wood with a loud tapping. Timber with a
wide opening can be thinner or hollow sound than wood that is not perforated.
Knock on wood, can also incite and cause ants leave the nest, so that you can
more easily see the ants.
Do not forget that anthill adults often have a small
satellite nest nearby, which also must be sought to ensure that all ants are to
be exterminated.
3. Destroy or dispose of the colony. For a small colony or
colonies reasonably accessible, sometimes you simply throw colony. If the
colony outdoors, exposed wood waste quite carefully, using materials
impenetrable as tarps to protect themselves from ants. If colonies are found in
the room, many pest control sites suggests the use of a vacuum cleaner to
disrupt and suck ant colony. [5]
If you are using a vacuum cleaner, be sure to close and
dispose of the dust bag carefully, so that the ants can not run.
If you find extensive colonies in the wood on the walls, do
not cut wood - you risk compromising the structural integrity of the home.
Instead, contact the experts.
